After an election

When propounding an
issue of trust,
our guidelines are always robust:
to sing democracy and choice and send a
clear message sanctifying the agenda,
which is (or are?) seen to be Right. Today
the creeping Party-Faithful praise - or pray
for fiercest critics to desist or fade away.
Liars and warmongers go down in History,
revise the truth, twist fact, make wealth a mystery.
Now, clubman, smile again, congratulate and rule:
the earnest crook returns, outwits the honest fool.
