At large & Each side of the sky
by Jill Jones
[ poetry - november 09 ]
At large
this is the handsome night
now unhidden from
salt and pepper days
the east-west thickness
full of markets and cream
all lit and stirring
but now, bypass the knife,
the gate, bypass yourself
into the dark, limber, delicious
though you'll never know
even under a new torch
how well dark it is
exhale, infiltrate, the 24 hour god,
in reconnaissance, growls
an original asking
Each side of the sky
The curtains are rocking,
so are the flies, circles
in motion, the wind
off the snow is rocking
the trees, sunset moves
each side of the sky,
daily, golden, clouding.
The trucks
rock,
the cars, vans, kayaks,
the mind within
and without night-deep
dreaming, or morning's
bellbird - much to sleeping.
Wake! The
sound
of fields and black beaches
rocking as seals
play the tides,
it's the moon's fault,
and the sun
making the sky blue.
