Conclusions

by Mel C Thompson

[ poetry - june 09 ]

We got a classic rock feeling,
an Art Garfunkel vocal
with Randy Newman piano
over a seafood arrangement.

We got impermanence
under our thumbs. Urban
planning for immortality.
Good luck is good business.

The San Mateo Bridge,
father, gazes back to
an independent child.
We concede nothing.

Why meet life half way
when you're in the end zone?
If you're paying caterers,
we advise a victory party.

Precision is our ecstasy.
Foster City is way out
ahead of the curve. No
grading on a scale.

Red-winged blackbirds
defend fifty-foot roosts.
I tepidly tiptoe through
the pickleweed and catch

the scent of summer.
At Beach Park Frame Shop
a map of Napoleon's
march to Moscow waits.
