out of deep need

by Boris Jardine

[ poetry - november 05 ]

fireworks askance
worked fresh
dance in the notes
of two birds
on the lamppost
low sun
lack of haze
forked light
heating naught
steals flesh from
out that stamp
of stricken eyes
a girl alone
in midwinter's
posthumous
warmth, its
flow and cut
aloft sinking 'worth'

walk around
the forest leaves
intoning choirs
upon the loss
of principle
sadness where
flying along
the soft sound
sinking laugh
at night sleep
and dream of
the mist and the
branch that holds
the reddening leaf
