There is talk of money
by Sarah Westcott
[ poetry - february 10 ]
(After Ciaran Carson)
How money never is
like a seahorse or a pinecone or a fork,
money is what it can say, or not -
money is only money if it belongs
to someone, or is moving
from one place to another like light.
All this talk of money,
how its value lies in movement,
like a racing horse, like friendship,
like haute couture -
how it's always just the name we buy,
and not the thing itself.
